Five year old Fleetwood's Amber wins again in 2010

“Amber has filled out in the six months or so from this photo:  she’ll be six years in April 2011.   Once the drought broke, and with fresh feed on the ground, Amber’s Suffolk genes as a ‘good doer’ really showed:  we’ve had to keep her in a ‘lock up’ paddock”.

For Gail Fleetwood, there is something special about Amber and their partnership.   “She has also changed in her attitude as she has got older.   When younger, she would tend to barge without thinking what she was doing, but now she is very pliable.  I have taught her to side pass along a log and I can nearly put her anywhere. I do a lot of this with an open bridle on her.  Amber has always been quiet;  doesn’t take any notice at anything at the shows , but then,  we have been showing her since she was a yearling.  I am very fond of our two geldings, we’ve had them since they were yearlings,  but Amber is my good mate.  We have had horses for over 40 years, and used to show quarter horses, but I have never felt as close to any other horse as I do to her.”

As a four year old, Amber created a great deal of interest  when she appeared at Gatton in 2009.   Certainly it is rare to see a draught horse of such a vibrant chestnut, and this drew people to her.    She certainly caught the judge’s eye,

In the working classes, she got third in the Mum & Dad Ploughing and log snig.
